Very few people today can afford to be nostalgic! Many no longer do so out of fear, hiding their feelings lest they suffer public opprobrium if they could be suspected of sympathizing with the old regime.

They have knowingly buried their nostalgia for their first love, for the first flower they gave to a girl, for graduating from college. They have almost erased from their minds the memories of friendships and mountain hikes, the memory of their first tape recorder, along with the memory of power outages in the evening, queues for petrol and salami in the shop windows, throwing the baby out with the bathwater in true Romanian style.

The show proposed by Republic Hub boldly attempts to bring together all the memories, good and bad, so that in the end, the audience can take stock with all the evidence on the table. Significant episodes from the main character’s entire life are evoked, sometimes with a necessary bitter humor, sometimes with subtlety, sometimes with brutality, trying to present the same facts and images to the viewer’s brain again, but now from the perspective of the person who went through that experience, for a new evaluation.

The unique artistic vision is further emphasized by the director’s choice of a style very close to pantomime, the show being entirely “WITHOUT WORDS,” as shown in the graphic presentation.

Music “OFFLINE” – The sound heart of a silent show

Like silent films of the past, the show needed musical accompaniment, which was created entirely by a single composer who is also a performer and sound engineer, Liviu Dobrescu, a computer scientist by profession. Faithful to his passion since high school and college, he sometimes hides in his improvised music studio on the balcony in Brăila, where he has produced six “home” albums so far, the latest being “OFFLINE,” which became the soundtrack for the show.

The script and direction belong to another “loner,” Constantin Teodorescu, also a computer scientist, but only on his second “foray” into the theater.

The show offers the audience a truly unique experience, allowing each of us to interpret many sequences through the prism of our own experience, which is not necessarily the same for everyone.
